“Exo Terra Reptile UVB 100, 13Wxa0” emits a moderate to high amount of UVB rays, similar to that emitted by shaded environments such as rainforests and other tropical areas. Reptiles living in these habitats receive less UV radiation due to many climatic conditions (fairly high humidity, weather changes, etc.) that prevent direct sunlight from reaching them or their basking spots. The advantage of “Exo Terra Repti Glo” compact fluorescent bulbs is their size and the fact that they have their own ballast. A standard screw base is sufficient to control these bulbs. The spiral shape of the bulb allows it to be mounted vertically or horizontally without compromising performance. For optimal results, it is recommended to combine a high UVB output (“Repti Glo 5.0” and “10.0”) with a very high visual light output (“Repti Glo 2.0”). Fluorescent bulbs do not provide enough heat. An additional separate heat source is required (e.g., an incandescent bulb for the basking spot).
