The new Sky-Watcher EQ8-R mount can provide that. For a long time, astronomy enthusiasts had a narrow choice between the inexpensive EQ-6 mount and very expensive mounts designed for high loads.The EQ8- has the same technical specifications as the EQ8-RH, the same payload capacity, the same design, the same weight and the same functions. The only difference is the absence of the built-in encoder characteristic of the RH versions.

In this assembly, the electronics incorporate virtually all possible types of connections currently used by astronomers. 4 USB 3.0 ports, 4, 6 and 8-pin RJ ports, as many as 3 additional power inputs, a USB-C 3.0 socket and the classic and effective Sky-Watcher SynScan remote control in version 5.

Mechanically, the periodic error of the Sky-Watcher EQ8-R has been reduced to a minimum, and the ergonomic and balanced design already characteristic of the EQ8 mount has been further improved. The 50 kg payload capacity is another confirmation of the direction chosen by the manufacturer. The intermediate gear (between the motor and the worm) ensures maximum tracking and pointing performance, as well as unprecedented smooth operation.

The EQ8-R mount features a very robust construction. It is precisely in this area that the mount market has so far had little to offer at an affordable price. With the new EQ8-R mount, this has suddenly changed. You can now safely mount larger optical tubes, such as 12-inch or 14-inch, and use them easily in astrophotography. The package also includes two 10 kg counterweights.
