    Apraksts

    From February 1, 2017, WE ARE EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON SKY-WATCHER TELESCOPES TO 5 YEARS!

    Electronic and drive components are covered by a 2-year warranty.

    One of the best Newtonian telescopes, mounted on the most popular HEQ5 mount for astrophotography. The main element of this telescope is a 200 mm (8-inch) diameter parabolic mirror with a 1000 mm focal length. The new version has a 2-inch diameter Crayford focuser with 1.25-inch reduction, which allows the use of practically all eyepieces on the market. In addition, the focuser has a T-2 thread, to which, thanks to additional reduction elements, we can attach a DSLR camera.

    In addition, the telescope has a Barlow lens which, combined with a 1.25-inch eyepiece, will double the magnification, but this will worsen the field of view and image sharpness. It is worth supplementing the telescope equipment with additional eyepieces. One eyepiece with a shorter focal length of about 5 mm for observing planets and one wide-angle two-inch, about 30 mm, eyepiece with a large field of view allowing a survey of the sky.

    Optical system

    Reflecting telescope (Newtonian system). Due to its high brightness, we especially recommend the telescope for observing nebulae. This model will also be useful for observing planetary objects and lunar craters. The main advantage of this telescope is the large 200 mm parabolic mirror, which is the most important element of the telescope, determining what and how we will be able to observe. This telescope collects about 575 times more light at night than the human eye, so it can observe objects up to 13th magnitude (naked-eye visibility reaches up to 6th magnitude). The mirror size is also related to the optical resolution, which in this telescope allows distinguishing stars more than 0.7 inches apart. In addition, the telescope has a Barlow lens which, combined with a 1.25-inch eyepiece, will double the image, but this will worsen the field of view and image sharpness. It is worth supplementing the telescope equipment with additional eyepieces. One eyepiece with a shorter focal length of about 5–6 mm for observing planets and one wide-angle two-inch, about 30 mm, eyepiece with a large field of view allowing a survey of the sky.

    Mounting

    The telescope is mounted on a very good HEQ5 SynScan equatorial mount. This mount is characterized by exceptional stability and precision and many other very useful functions that will appeal to everyone, even advanced astronomers. The mount head sits firmly on a wide tripod mounting platform made of stainless steel and equipped with a useful accessory tray. The kit also includes a level indicator (bubble level), a latitude adjuster with a micrometer scale, and an azimuth adjuster for polar alignment using the pole star. The HEQ5 also has engraved aluminum setting circles and slow-motion control knobs. The mount is designed for users who need greater stability comparable to that offered by the EQ6, but with smaller dimensions and weight (7.3 kg). It features a polar finder, sturdy locking clamps on the right ascension and declination axes, and a factory-made drive head with a retractable counterweight bar. The tripod with 1.75-inch legs ensures maximum stability of the whole set.
    The GoTo SynScan Pilot is a full and extended version that allows tracking and finding objects in the sky. The SynScan remote control offers three tracking rates: sidereal, lunar, solar two-axis and RA (right ascension axis) modes. The following alignment procedures are available: one-star alignment, two-star alignment, three-star alignment. The database contains 25 user-defined objects, as well as a full database of Messier, NGC, and IC objects (13,436 objects in total). The remote control is also programmed to easily find planets or the Moon. Among the advanced functions, it is worth mentioning the vibration reduction mode for long-exposure photography and the software periodic error correction (PEC), as well as computer ports for controlling the telescope with a computer (RS-232 port), and Auto-Guide for precise mount alignment when photographing with a guide camera.

    Excerpt

    The telescope is equipped with a Crayford focuser, allowing the use of 2" and 1.25" eyepieces. The kit includes two 1.25-inch diameter eyepieces.

    Astronomical observations

    1. Solar System

    • objects on the lunar surface larger than 1.5 km;

    • Sunspots and their structure;

    • all planets of the Solar System;

    • phases of Mercury and Venus

    • the disk of Mars

    • the equatorial belts of Jupiter and the Galilean moons

    • the rings of Saturn and several smaller moons of the planet

    • Uranus and Neptune

    • the movement of asteroids against the background of stars

    • observations of bright comets

    2. Stars

    • about 2.7 million stars across the entire sky, with brightness down to approximately 13th magnitude

    • double and multiple stars separated by an angular distance greater than 0.7 arcseconds.

    • colors of the brightest stars

    3. Nebular objects

    • all Messier catalog objects

    • hundreds of globular clusters, in many cases partially resolved into individual stars

    • hundreds of open clusters

    • several dozen nebulae with many details

    • thousands of galaxies with visible structural details

    Terrestrial observations

    A telescope with this type of optics is not suitable for terrestrial observations. To invert the image, use a so-called erecting lens, which allows us to flip the image to its natural (upright) state. Together with an erecting lens and the holder on which it is mounted, it can be used as a simple device for observations in terrestrial settings.
