The MAK 127 telescope is an excellent choice for astronomy enthusiasts looking for portable equipment to observe the Moon and the planets of the Solar System. The telescope consists of a meniscus corrector plate, a primary mirror, and a secondary mirror located on the inner part of the meniscus. These telescopes feature a reduced form of coma and minimal chromatic aberration, so the images are bright and clear. The main advantage of Maksutov telescopes is their short length, compact design, and generally low weight. Due to the long focal length and low focal ratio, they are ideal for planetary observation. This type of design works well in urban environments where it is difficult to observe nebulae in a bright sky. The telescope has a 1.25-inch focuser, a diagonal of the same size, an eyepiece, and two "Super" eyepieces with focal lengths of 10 and 25 mm, which provide 150x and 60x magnification.

Optical system

A telescope composed of a spherical meniscus corrector (a negative meniscus lens made of crown glass), a primary mirror, and a secondary mirror located on the inner part of the meniscus. These telescopes are characterized by a reduced likelihood of coma and astigmatism, and chromatic aberration is usually minimal. They produce exceptionally bright and clear images. Due to the long focal length and low focal ratio, they are ideal for observing the Moon and planets. Unfortunately, such a telescope does not allow for large fields of view and is generally not suitable for observing nebulae.
This telescope collects about 235 times more light than the human eye can see at night, so it can be used to observe objects with a brightness of up to nearly 12.1 magnitude (naked-eye visibility reaches up to 6 magnitude). The size of the mirror also determines the optical resolution, which allows this telescope to distinguish stars located more than 1.1 inches apart from each other.

Installation

The EQ3-2 is the cheapest mount designed for a polar finder. It is a highly recommended mount, quite stable yet light enough to be easy to transport. This mount receives excellent reviews from astronomy enthusiasts. It features robustness, precision, and stability, as well as many features useful to any advanced astronomer. The mount head sits firmly on a sturdy, adjustable aluminum tripod with a convenient accessory tray. Precise slow-motion knobs allow accurate manual tracking of celestial objects. The mechanics of the EQ3-2 mount are constructed using special worm gears, allowing precise control of movement in both the right ascension and declination axes. The drives can be used on one or two axes, or the mount can be converted into a full GoTo system.

Extract

The telescope has a 1.25-inch eyepiece outlet. Focusing is adjusted with a knob located next to the mirror. Focusing is adjusted by changing the position of the primary mirror. The kit includes two eyepieces of this diameter.

Terrestrial observations

A telescope with this type of optics is not suitable for terrestrial observations. To invert the image, a prism diagonal must be used, which will flip the image to a natural (vertical) orientation. With a diagonal and a suitable mount, it can be used as a simple terrestrial observation device.
