The 200–500 mm focal length range (DX format equivalent – 300–750 mm) provides exceptional coverage, perfect for capturing hard-to-photograph birds and mammals in highly detailed images. A constant f/5.6 aperture ensures comfortable speed and allows smooth depth of field control at any zoom setting. When the subject is close, the minimum focusing distance (only 2.2 m) enables capturing extremely sharp and vivid images.

This lens is designed for use with fast Nikon DSLR cameras, so it responds quickly and accurately. An electromagnetic diaphragm ensures precise exposure even during high-speed continuous shooting.

The exclusive Nikon Silent Wave Motor delivers fast autofocus with smooth manual override. A fixed maximum aperture (f/5.6) ensures AF works even with a 1.4× teleconverter (when mounted on a camera supporting f/8 aperture). The electromagnetic diaphragm performs excellently at maximum shutter speed and frame rates, even with an optional teleconverter.
