One of the main obstacles to exploring the night sky is artificial light, such as streetlights, illuminating the night sky. The night sky is actually not dark near cities, so the visibility of objects beyond the Solar System is greatly reduced. Depending on the type of celestial object, contrast can be greatly increased by blocking annoying artificial light.

The EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC O-III filter uses a property characteristic of so-called emission nebulae. These objects glow in special colors called emission lines. These emission lines are associated with chemical elements - in this case oxygen. The EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC O-III nebula filter blocks all other colors (and thus almost all artificial light), so only two oxygen emission lines pass through the filter. The result is stunning: suddenly nebulae become visible in places that were completely empty without filters. For example, in a suburban sky, the Veil Nebula NGC 6992 is almost invisible with a 200 mm telescope. Using this filter, the nebula and its structures are visible without problems.
